Towards the end of last year, Snapchat introduced a way for individuals to build their own lenses. And now, the company has introduced a way for people to find those lenses inside the app and this they did a few days ago. Lens Explorer as it is called has the ability to showcase the best of developers’ lenses in a myriad of ways. According to the Snap, explorer will be only be available on iOS for the moment.
According to the reports that have gotten to us from our sources, Lens Explorer will appear in a carousel of lenses that will pop up as soon as you tap the camera screen. Then you will have the ability to browse among the many lenses that have been created over time up to date and also, you will be able to view public stories that have been created with the use of these lenses. If you find one you fancy, you can swipe up on a snap and unlock it so you can use it.
Our sources report that the feed of lenses you will get will be personalized to you on the basis of certain factors one of which is location. According to the company, at least no sponsored lenses will appear in the explorer for now.
Making lenses more visible within the Snapchat app should be enough to provide developers with a lot more incentive and motivation to create more lenses even if they still have no means of making profit from them. Snap has entreated developers with an “official lens creators program” which offers support for tech and unspecified “revenue opportunities.”
When our sources reached out to Snap, the company stated that Lenses that are built using the Snap Lens Studio tool have been viewed more than 2.5 billion times.
