Due to the widespread #Delete Uber protest that abruptly broke out on social media, this was made public by reports from the New York times. This resulted to the stepping down of Uber CEO Travis Kalanick from his position on president Donald Trump’s Economic advisory council.
In a statement released by Kalanick then, “Earlier today, I spoke briefly with the president about the immigration executive order and its issues for our community”
“I also let him know that I would not be able to participate on his economic council joining the group was not meant to be an endorsement of the president on his agenda but unfortunately, it has been misinterpreted to be exactly that”
In addition to the mass deletion of its app, it seemed Uber was also faced with both external and internal pressures.
A disputation all-hands meetings was held which had Kalanick struggle with serious staff complaints over the perceived relationship between Uber, its chief executive and the Trump’s administration.
Some employees informed Kalanick as they suffer a social stigma as they are workers at Uber. This was made public by the New York Times.
Subsequently , a google doc containing 25 pages titled “Letters to Travis” was distributed at the company, as reported by the New York times, it made mention of employees’ dissatisfaction with how Kalanick had managed the relationship between Uber and Trump. The following day, Kalanick surrendered under agreed conditions and gave up his position on trumps council.
