WhatsApp sometime took off its text status updates. Fast forward to today, we are seeing that Whatsapp is putting things together to bring back the text status feature.
The text status was particularly one important feature which gave a user the ability to tell others how available he was (something like “text only” in his profile). It was quite disturbing when we saw WhatsApp replacing this feature. The replacement WhatsApp brought in was kind of the stories we have in Snapchat. But this replacement was almost interpreted as overbearing for many of us WhatsApp users didn’t want this stories feature; and worst still it replaced our beloved text status feature. And now WhatsApp is doing something to address this deficiency.
In a statement from WhatsApp:
“We heard from our users that people missed the ability to set a persistent text-only update in their profile, so we’ve integrated this feature into the ‘About’ section in profile settings. Now, the update will appear next to profile names anytime you view contacts, such as when creating a new chat or looking at Group info. At the same time, we’re continuing to build on the new Status feature that gives people fun and engaging ways to share photos, videos and GIFs with their friends and family throughout their day.”
What we can’t precisely say for now is whether WhatsApp will pull off the stories feature entirely from WhatsApp although what we can definitely say is that the Status messages we loved so far is going to be restored.
