Vivo has made an announcement of its latest flagship phone, the V9 which has a notch. It features a 6.3-inch 2280 x 1080 LCD with a 19:9 aspect ratio; Vivo states that the notch aids attaining a screen-to-body ratio of 90 percent.
The specs sheet of the V9 is standard. It carries a Snapdragon 626 processor, 4GB RAM, a battery of 3260mAh, 64GB of internal storage, a microSD card slot, a Micro USB port, and a headphone jack. The phone runs Vivo’s Funtouch OS 4.0 skin on Android 8.1 Oreo.
The rear camera is 16MPs and has an f/2 lens combined with a secondary 5MPs unit for depth information and blurry backgrounds. Vivo is giving priority to selfies with a front-facing camera of 24MPs and f/2 lens as well.
Vivo also has intentions to include a feature called AI Face Beauty which makes use of machine learning to identify users’ age, sex, skin tone, and texture in order to according to the company, “truly represent their beauty.” There’s a selfie lighting feature that sounds similar to what Apple introduced on the iPhone X and 8, although Vivo is undertaking it with a single high resolution camera.
Vivo claims that AI boosts the performance of the device in general through “AI Smart Engine,” as the company calls it, dealing with things like management and app launch based on the user’s behaviour. “AI Face Access” is said to better the accuracy of the face unlock feature, and “AI Attention Sensing” discerns when you’re looking at the screen and reduces the volume of notifications.
The V9 will serve as Vivo’s new flagship phone in India and other markets, although the company announced a higher flagship for China, Vivo X21. It has a like design with the V9 but has a Snapdragon 660 processor, 12MPs cameras both on the rear and the front, as well as an OLED screen. The X21 has an option for an in-display fingerprint scanner provided by the Chinese company Goodix rather than Synaptics.
The V9 will be available in gold and black variants soon enough.
