Who doesn’t enjoy a nice fun time and relaxation, pretty much everyone does. As much as human beings go to their jobs or schools or whatever thing they have going on, they always set apart a time where they can just relax and not think about anything else like family or responsibility. Tinsel
Tinsel is a soap opera from Nigeria that started in the year 2008 precisely in the month of August. A lot of people have argued that Tinsel is “the most successful television drama on Nigerian television in recent times.”
The plot of this TV show revolves around two film companies that are in competition. The film companies are Reel Studios which was founded by Fred Ade-Williams (Victor Olaotan), and Odyssey Pictures, whose leader is Brenda “Nana” Mensah (Funmilola Aofiyebi-Raimi).
This shooting of this TV show was done at a studio in Ojota, Lagos, however, in March 2013, the producers and directors of the show moved their shooting location to a studio and private dwelling place in Ikeja, Lagos.
Some of the actors starring in the show are Ireti Doyle, Bimbo Manuel, Yul Edochie, Linda Ejiofor, and Alex Okoroji. The show is displayed on Channel 154 on DSTV.
Jenifa’s Diary
Jenifa’s Diary is the next best TV show in Nigeria and is starred by Funke Akindele.
This series tells a story of a naive village girl who leaves her village in a desperate attempt to better her life. She decides to stay back in Lagos after her effort to travel to America fails. There she meets Toyo baby who helps her get some education, and Kiki who accommodates her, Segun who she falls in love The show is about a girl who is very simple and a little bit inexperienced with city life being because she had always lived in the village with her parents, however, she left the village so that she could find some way to make her life better. She meets Toyosi who helps her get an education, Kiki who provides her accommodation, Segun with whom she falls in love after making an effort to travel to out to America but that endeavour fails.
The Johnsons
The Johnsons is another TV drama series that is quite popular in Nigeria. Just like Jenifa’s Diary, it is also a comedy series. The TV show has a lot of viewers in Nigeria. This comedy TV show is also displayed on Africa Magic Channel 154.
The TV series is features the way of life of a typical Nigerian family living in Lagos State and the way they handle the issues they face and interact with one another, other people, and their environment. The comedy show was shot in the city of Lagos.
The actors and actresses that star in the home drama include Chinedu Ikedieze, Charles Inojie, Ada Ameh, Samuel Ajibola, Seun Adebajo Osigbesan, Sharon Abadoni and so much more.
Fifty – The series
The next TV show on our list is Fifty – The series. The shooting of this television series was done in Lagos state, Nigeria – a city known by all to be very lively and full of energy and activity. The series tells the story of four female characters that go by the names; Tola, Elizabeth, Kate, and Maria who due to life’s ups and downs are driven to take stock of happenings in their lives at the ages of 40 and above (mid-life). They are encompassed with a lot of ambitions they never served when they were younger and the natural life occurrences such as betrayals from friends and loved ones – practically people they trust threaten their relations.
It is a continuation of a popular EbonylifeTV show that has the same title. It is displayed on DSTV Channel 165.
Before 30
The last television series we’ll be talking about on our list is titled Before 30. This TV show is sponsored by GSM network, Airtel Nigeria as well as First Bank of Nigeria; and the viewing of this series started in the year 2015, precisely the same year the directors and producers started shooting the movie. The TV show is directed by Bodurin ‘BB’ Sasore and the actors and actresses that star in the movie include Damilola Adegbite, OC Ukeje, Beverly Naya, Meg Otanwa, and Anee Icha.
The show tells the story of four urban ladies with careers and how they try to cope with pressures of society to be married before they reach the age 30 as well as the trials in their relationships. A central character narrates the story. It is displayed on DSTV Africa Magic Channel 153.
