Microsoft Edge for iOS and Android coming with a built-in ad blocker

We have gotten reports from our sources stating that Microsoft is working to build Adblock Plus directly into its Edge browser for iOS and Android. Microsoft has at the moment began to make the integration available to Microsoft Edge for Android beta users along with an iOS test program. The upgrade will soon be broadly distributed to all Edge for iOS and Android users. In order to enable the adblocker, head to the Microsoft Edge settings and there you will find it. You do not need to download and install it separately as an add-in.

The step taken by the tech giant is an important one. The company has involved itself in a partnership with Adblock Plus to build this function right into the Microsoft Edge browser. Before now, Google had introduced its own ad blocking feature in Google Chrome, however, it is not as captivating and interesting as the Adblock Plus and also most ads are not blocked on a lot of sites in Chrome. The Mozilla Firefox browser designed for Android also has somewhat of a built-in ad blocking feature, although in its case, it can only be activated while in a session when using a private tab or window. Users of Samsung Android devices can also install Adblock extensions to block ads in Samsung’s browser.

As of now, the Microsoft Edge for Android has gotten to a height of about 5 million installs on the Google Play Store, and as a matter of fact it still has a long way to go if its goal is to meet up with the 100 million installs of Mozilla Firefox or the default Chrome browser whose total installs is more than a billion in quantity on Android. There is no saying exactly the rate of popularity gained by the Edge browser on iOS, however, Microsoft initially launched Edge for iOS and Android in November last year and it was not available on Android tablets and the iPad until recently.
