Google handling Chrome extensions to prevent installation from websites

According to the reports reaching us from our sources, Google has announced that it is making some changes to the way extensions will be handled in the Google chrome. As of now, every extension that is newly published will be available only in the Chrome Web Store. For a long time, web developers have activated installations of Chrome extensions from their own websites or via inline installations as it referred to by Google, now, the company is removing this process.

As explained by James Wagner, the extensions platform product manager at Google, “We continue to receive large volumes of complaints from users about unwanted extensions causing their Chrome experience to change unexpectedly. The majority of these complaints are attributed to confusing or deceptive uses of inline installation on websites.”

Although Google has made an attempt to deal with these misleading extensions, the Chrome Web Store presents a more detailed information regarding extensions. According to Google, the extensions that are installed directly from the Chrome Web Store have a low probability of being uninstalled in comparison to inline extensions. The plan that Google is making to remove inline installations for extensions in existence from Chrome is scheduled to begin on the 12th of September this year, and users of Chrome will be redirected to the Chrome Web Store. with the coming of Chrome 71 by December, Google plans to totally remove the inline API method.

According to Wagner, “We’re confident this change will improve transparency for all users about their extension choices in Chrome.” These changes denote that users of Google Chrome browser will no longer be able to install extensions except from the Chrome Web Store, and developers will have to update their install buttons to link them to the Chrome Web Store page. It is the aim of the company that by installing extensions from the Web Store, Chrome users will be prevented from being pushed into installing extensions especially the ones that they do not need.
