According to the reports reaching us, Amazon will be bringing its complete packed Alexa voice assistant to any smartphone, with a featured update which includes Alexa in the existing Alexa app through Android police. Before this time, the only thing it could do was to let you manage Amazon’s assistant on other devices and link hardware like Echo. When the update is made available, users will be able to use the Alexa voice commands to access the news, to-do lists, weather and other real time information.
Amazon had earlier formed a partnership with several companies to incorporate its voice assistant onto smartphones, but it was only available to a few devices, like the Huawei Mate 9 and the Motorola Moto X4. Our sources confirm that by adding the Alexa voice assistant to the Alexa app; happens to be the first time Amazon will be making the exclusive AI freely available on almost any device.
One point is significantly worthy of note, and that is the fact that phones still will not be able to listen for the “Alexa” command if the app is closed. Therefore, if you are not willing to open up the app all the time in order to conjure up Alexa, you can’t access the voice assistant thus translating to the fact that it is probably not super useful yet. At the very least however, adding it to the freely available Alexa app will boost the number of users that will have the ability to take advantage of the assistant in terms of use even if Amazon will not be able to achieve quite the same level of hardware and software integration that Google Assistant, Siri, or even Samsung’s Bixby have on their respective platforms.
One of our sources reports that the update is expected to be rolling out in the next few days on Android devices, the report also stated that there’s also an iOS version said to be coming soon.
