It was 6 months ago that Xiaomi updated its Mi Mix smartphone with a refined all-screen design. The company has now announced a new design: the Mi Mix 2S. The updates include a new processor, wireless charging, and a new dual-camera system. The Mi Mix 2S will be available in China by next week and to other markets after that.
Xiaomi co-founder Lei Jun said, “We are comparing to iPhone X because people say it is the best phone. We just want to show we surpassed the best in many features.” The Mi Mix 2S is half the price of iPhone X at 3,299 yuan(about $527).
The Mi Mix 2S has a 5.99-inch, full HD plus LCD display, with trim bezels on the side and the top. In the lower right corner of the phone’s “chin” is the 5MPs front-facing camera. The Mi Mix 2S will be available in two versions a black model with a gold trim or a white model with a silver trim. It is made up of aluminum and ceramics. Beneath the ceramic panel is a new wireless charging coil, which supports the Qi spec and is coming with a new optional wireless charging pad from Xiaomi. The Mi Mix 2S is the first Xiaomi phone to support wireless charging. It also makes provision for Qualcomm’s QuickCharge 3 wired charging through its USB-C port.
It has a dual-camera system comprised of two 12-megapixel sensors, one behind a wide-angle lens, and one behind a telephoto lens, and it supports portrait mode effects. It’s set behind an f/1.8 lens; the telephoto camera uses an f/2.4 lens and has smaller pixels.
More so, Xiaomi has developed an AI component to its camera software, said to improve features like the portrait mode and beautifying functions. Inside, the Mi Mix 2S there’s a Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 processor, combined with either 6GB or 8GB of RAM, a battery of 3,400mAh will have either 64, 128, or 256GB of storage.
Xiaomi says it plans to launch some phones in the US by next year or thereabouts but it appears as if the Mi Mix 2S will not be included in that launch.
