Reports have gotten to us from our sources that a new feature is about to be rolled out on Instagram. The company is working to provide Usage Insights, a feature that will give users explicit details about the amount of time they spend on the platform either posting selfies or just regular pictures or complementing those posted by their friends and family members.
We got a confirmation of this feature that is soon to be released when the CEO of the company Kevin Systrom commented that the update will be arriving soon enough ever since we came upon the code on the Instagram Android app.
This is really an interesting feature that Instagram has brought out. It is indeed exceptional because, most social media companies crave the time users spend on their apps as well as the clicks. It is therefore fascinating that Instagram is working on a feature that will get individuals to lay down their devices for a bit and take a little time away from so many clicking and typing.
In the words of CEO Kevin Systrom;
“We’re building tools that will help the IG community know more about the time they spend on Instagram – any time should be positive and intentional. Understanding how time online impacts people is important, and it’s the responsibility of all companies to be honest about this. We want to be part of the solution. I take that responsibility seriously.”
That statement can be likened to a promise made by Facebook the parent company of Instagram earlier this year to ensure that the clicking on the platform was meant a quality time usage for users and not just to waste it.
Although the audience on Instagram is quite lower in age group compared to Facebook, it is nice to see Instagram making this move. It will also be nice if other social media platforms with users of a young age also follow in this footsteps.
