Mark Zuckerberg wants everything from us. Facebook is rapidly encroaching into every aspect of our lives that our addiction to Facebook would need more than TB Joshua anointing water to break free from. Yet I admire Mark Zuckerberg and his expansionist ideas, I even look forward to seeing an ad on Facebook of an Ibo girl whose brideprice is N45.00!
And now Facebook is grossly immersing itself in e-commerce with the official launch of Marketplace. According to Facebook, this will be a nice place for users to carry out exchange involving selling and buying goods within themselves located in community. Facebook is calling this Marketplace. Facebook says this is nothing new but just rebranding a behavior which already has it place firmly on Facebook.
Going by what project manager Bowen Pan says a number running into 450 million people already employ the services of Facebook in buying and selling used goods on a monthly basis. This is done basically through its groups feature. So with the presence of Marketplace, Facebook is now opening the doors to users as to a more official medium to engaging in buying and selling.
Marketplace will replace Messenger on Facebook’s app
When Marketplace comes to our dear naija, the icon for Marketplace would take over from Messenger icon which formerly appears on Facebook’s mobile app at the center of the bottom row. So when you get to tap it. It will automatically direct you to an algorithmically generated home page of items which Facebook would suggest you may have interests in. These suggestions could be drawn from the pages you previously have liked and in further time what you have viewed, bought or sold within Marketplace. So you will now have the option of messaging the person who intends selling the item as well as submitting an offer depending on your choice.
There is not much you will do from here. You would be able to surf through categories of items and even reviews of a collection of things up for sale nearby. You can also look for something and extend the location size of your query so as to accommodate a larger extent of distance. If you also desire, you will be able to vary your location so as to locate items which are listed in other regions or even other cities. Facebook’s intends to make Marketplace have that unique appeal of a mobile-first initiative.
