Samsung is developing Contact lenses which presents a built-in camera, sensors as well as a display which has the capacity to project images straight into the eyes of the wearer.

The South Korean electronics giant’s patent application for the technology —initially noticed by unofficial Samsung blog Sammobile—made the revelation that the concept drew its inspiration from the restrictions associated with smart glasses, just like we have with Google Glass.

According to the application which is about 29-pages, the smart glasses’ image quality is hinged being restricted so as not to present a natural interface.

The smart contact lens can be maneuvered by eye movements as well as blinking, giving the user the possible ability to take photos with the miniature camera. All they need do is by blink or wink. After this an antenna would now perform the transmission of the image to a companion device, which in this case could be a tablet or a smartphone.

Samsung will not be the precedent as to developing a smart contact lens technology. Some two years back, Google had entered into a deal with healthcare specialist Novartis with the goal of developing contact lenses which would lend a big helping hand in monitoring the glucose levels of the wearer. In the words of Google co-founder Sergey Brin said at the time: Our dream is to use the latest technology in the miniaturization of electronics to help improve the quality of life for millions of people.
