Instagram Updates App With 3 New Filters & Emoji Hashtag

Facebook-owned photo and video sharing service, Instagram, has released 3 new filters to the popular photo app, bringing the filters to a total number of 22. In addition to these filters, the new Instagram update (available in Apple’s App Store and Google Play) allows you to use emoji in your hashtags, thereby providing new ways to communicate and explore from captions.

The three new filters which according to Instagram are “inspired by weekend adventures outdoors” include called Lark, Reyes and Juno. While Lark softens reds in favor of blue and green hues to highlight landscape shots, Juno tints cool tones green and boosts warm tones for vibrant photos of people (especially portraits), and Reyes adds a vintage and dusty look to photos.

These modern, subtle filters brighten and enhance your photos in refined, beautiful ways. As the company’s blog explains, “…you can discover even more by adding them to your own photos and videos, searching them on the Explore page and tapping on them when you see them in captions.” As with the rest of the app’s filters, all you need to do is press-and-drag unused filters to hide them and help declutter your toolbar.

Instagram’s filter range still leaves a lot to be desired, but its new releases are clearly working, as the last five filters released by Instagram back in December have since been such a hit, two of them – Ludwig and Crema – being the most popular filters on the service overall. The subtler filters were released partly as a comeback to VSCO, another upcoming photo-editing and filtering app that has clearly topped Instagram with its wealth of film-like filters. However, while VSCO has clearly topped Instagram with its wealth of film-like filters, Instagram’s filter update stands with improvements in smartphone cameras.

The emoji Hashtag update on the other hand is the rage on social media at the moment. Emojis are progressively becoming standard and they are great for interactions regardless of the language you speak. The social media platform decided to integrate this caption-changing feature because nearly half of all photo subheads incorporate emoji. So now Now you can use your favorite emojis to create, share and search for hashtags. Emoji hashtags can be added to photos and videos posted on Instagram, the hashtags can be searched on the Explore page and also when they’re added in captions.

With these additions and update, it is apparent that Instagram is not lagging behind other apps such as Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, Snapchat etc. The company has said that it plans on releasing more filters on a regular basis going forward.
